If your thinking about buying an older or classic car here are a few tips to stop an early visit to the Bank Manager!

1. Leave those rose tinted spectacles at home.

2. Check all service history carefully.

3. Were items noted needing attention on a service invoice carried out at a later date? Do they you have the invoice for this?

4. Has the vehicle had a lot of owners over a short period of time? Always find out why.

5. Always check the date of first registration with the date of vehicle manufacture. Lots of grey imported Ferrari's these days.

6. On cars with large V8 or V12 engines always be very careful. A Ferrari V12 can sound and drive magnificently to anyone who has not driven one before, even if it is in poor condition. A lot of time and expense is needed to rebuild an engine like this to as new condition.

7. If in doubt have it inspected by someone who knows.
